At Cookable Kitchen, we spend a lot of time thinking about and creating recipes. Like, a lot. That’s why we don’t have as many as a lot of other cooking websites. It’s a “labor of love” for us. It’s important that we get it right. Here’s what you can expect from each recipe.
Simple ingredients
We choose ingredients that are common at most grocery stores. We choose ingredients that make cooking easier, like pre-cut or frozen vegetables. We think about the cost of ingredients, although we may not always choose the cheapest option. Sometimes we think paying a little more is worth it if it makes the recipe easier to use.
Tools needed
We tell you what cooking tools will be needed. We choose tools based on what is safest for most people to use. You may want to look at our Alternative and Adaptive Cooking Tools page for ideas on what might work best for you.
No complicated language
We try to use as few words as possible. We avoid special cooking terms.
Break down every step
Our recipes include steps that are left out in most recipes. This includes steps for safety like “turn the oven off.”
Lots of pictures
We take pictures from the cook’s point of view. We include our hands in the photos so you can see what each step looks like while you’re cooking. We also use colors and symbols to help you follow the recipe.
Skill building
We tell you what skills are used in each recipe. You can decide if you may need help or more practice on a skill. Learn while you cook or visit our skill library (coming soon) to see a skill and practice. We also rate each recipe to help you find recipes and classes that will best meet your needs.
What to do with leftovers
Each recipe includes notes on how to store leftovers safely after cooking.
